SENTRY TOWER. 17th century.

The sentry tower from village Torgovicshe (17th century, copy 1905) is a first monument transported in a museum. Iit was included into structure of a fort Torgovicshe, which stood on a water path - river Sylva, near to a road in Siberia. The fort was constructed per 60 years 17th of century and was basic item protecting from the living here local wild inhabitants. The fort was dug round by a trench and is enclosed with a wall from the pointed from above trunks of trees. In it there were 8 sentry towers. Central passing the tower, had a gate, which were locked on huge locks, because of what the village was nicknamed "Torgovicshe - closed gate"". This tower was nicknamed "Pugachov's" that one from Pugachov's of groups has besieged a fort and has burned it, but passing the tower has escaped also local inhabitants have transferred it on a new place. In a 1899 the tower has burned down during a fire and the peasants in a 1905 have restored it by the forces.

The sentry tower has become the first monument restored on territory of a museum (by 1972). The architect G. Kantorovich is the author of the project of restoration.

The tower has in the basis, which is combined from qualitative wood. The top "chetverik" hangs above lower from northern party. The defence counsels of a stability threw in attacking stones and poured a boiling resin through orifices, derivated between them. The octahedron with windows on all parties of horizon and tent grows from a tetrahedral roof. Originally tent and "chetverik" were covered "red" wooden boards (from coniferous breeds of a tree).

The observant site covered by a small tent was placed above. Broad with a handholds the ladder conducted inside a tower on an observant site. Wooden carved eagle with two heads (the arms of Russia) decorated a tower from above.

Many known contributors of ancient Russian architecture were interested in this monument of wooden defensive architecture. A. Glagolev was first, who has described a sentry tower in a 1838 in " a Brief review of ancient Russian buildings and other domestic monuments ". Later V. Poljakov and M. Krasovsky about it wrote. I. Grabar has published it a photo in "Histories of Russian"
